In our view

This is a very well thought out phone that mimics the style common years ago as it has been shown to prompt better use of the telephone by those who remember this era - not that long ago! Sounds are amplified, it is hearing aid compatible and very easy to use. The SOS emergency function is a good addition, and the phone will still work if not put back on the hook correctly, a common problem with many normal phones. All in all a great package and good value.

The Geemarc CL64 is a classic rotary style phone with no dial pad or buttons which has been specially designed as a traditional looking telephone as research shows people with memory loss do recognise the retro style phone. The phone is totally hearing aid compatible and has amplification to help those who are hard of hearing. The telephone will ring at 70dB and can be increased further to ring at 80dB with the insertion of 4 x AA Size batteries. The phone has tone control slide button on the side of the phone for the user to increase or decrease the tone by plus or minus 10dB. The volume control button can increase the caller’s voice by an additional 25dB. In addition this phone can also increase or decrease your voice to the caller if they struggle to hear you!

One of the key features of this phone is SOS emergency memory function which is positioned in the centre of the face of the telephone, the emergency button can be programmed to contact the emergency services direct or to a carer or loved one (the setting panel is on the underside of the telephone). The lock for the keypad can be unlocked using a coin or your thumbnail. The telephone will dial out if no button is pressed when the hook has been lifted and no button pressed for 4 seconds. This is a useful feature for those who have memory loss or limited dexterity, simply lifting the receiver the pre-programmed number will dial after 4 seconds, the phone is already programmed to ring 112 as a factory standard but this can be changed to, for example, a family contact.

If the phone is not placed correctly on the cradle the phone will still ring, it automatically goes back on the hook and the phone will ring as normal
