In our view

We like this new and fresh approach to looking after your loved ones from a distance. It's truly simple to install, not intrusive, and easy to manage with any smartphone or laptop. It is also priced very competitively and will pay for itself quickly, with increased peace of mind for all.

Canary is a simply brilliant way to help people continue to live in their own homes for longer. We believe that home is where the heart is and for many older people, staying in their own home makes them happy but that doesn’t stop you from worrying.

If you find yourself thinking...

  • “I hope Mum’s alright”
  • “My Aunt desperately wants to carry on living in her own home but I’m constantly worried”
  • “I can’t be with him 24hours a day and my Father-in-law doesn’t want me to be… but is he ok?”
  • Canary can provide you with round the clock reassurance and peace of mind whilst allowing your relative to stay in the home they love.

    How will Canary help?

Canary allows you to see at a glance from your mobile, computer or tablet if everything is as it should be and will text and email you if anything out of the ordinary occurs. Canary unobtrusively monitors your relative’s home for:

  • is your relative safely out of bed and has visited the bathroom at the usual time?
  • have they visited the kitchen for breakfast, lunch and at other mealtimes?
  • and gone off to bed at their usual time in the evening?
  • Temperature

  • is the house is warm enough…but not too hot?
  • is the heating is coming on often enough?
  • is each room is the temperature you would like it to be?
  • Visitors

  • check if a visitor, eg: the cleaner or a carer, has been as expected
  • plan when you visit to coincide, or not, with others
  • see if your relative has had much company that day
  • Canary will text or email you if anything out of the ordinary occurs so that you can check that everything is ok.

Setting Canary up - Set up is easy and within a few minutes of arriving through the post you can have your system set up and working. You can also check the temperature of their home throughout the day, and if a visitor has been, and be quickly reassured that everything is as it should be. Canary sends alerts to your mobile or email address If something out of the ordinary occurs , Canary can be set up to warn you with alert texts and emails. Multiple alerts can be set to monitor the home environment for changes in Routine, Temperature and Visitors.

How much does it cost? Canary costs £270 for the initial Canary Package and there’s a £15 monthly monitoring fee.

    How Canary works:

Canary monitors many normal daily activities, using discreet sensors that are placed around the home, to check everything is as it should be. It does not use cameras so no-one can be seen.

  • Canary has been designed to be very easy to install without any professional help
  • You don’t need a phone line or broadband
  • The sensors are wireless and can be stuck to the wall using the contact strips provided
  • Login

  • Go to the Canary website and be guided through the simple registration process
  • Configure

  • You will be asked to input when and how you would like to receive alerts. For example, you could be informed via text or email if your relative has not been to the bathroom by 10am or has not been in the living room by 1pm
  • Over time, you will understand your relative's routine better so may wish to change when you receive alerts. Alerts can be changed at any time
  • How the sensors work

Individual wireless sensors are triggered as a person moves around their home. The information from these sensors is sent, via the hub, to the team at Canary where it is checked against the rules you created to determine whether we should send you an alert. The sensors detect movement in the same way that most burglar alarms do, by using passive infra-red technology. There are also temperature and light sensors within each unit to give you more information about the home environment.

    How the hub works

The hub coordinates the sensors in the Canary system wirelessly. To communicate your webpage, the hub has its own internal SIM card (like a mobile phone), which it uses to send data – so Canary does not need an existing telephone line or internet connection.

    What the Webpage is for

The online webpage provides a day-by-day view of Movement, Temperature and Visitor activity charts for the monitored home. The webpage can be accessed by computer, laptop and mobile devices. The webpage is also where you can access an overview of the system, detailed logs and user settings such as who receives alerts and how (email or text).

    How Alerts work

It is simple to set up and edit alerts that are relevant for your specific needs. Multiple alerts can be set via the webpage to warn of abnormal routine and home temperatures as well as alterations to, or fulfilment of, scheduled visits. Alerts can be tailored to specific sensors, times of the day or night as well as specific days of the week or weekend. Alerts can also be grouped across all of the sensors in the Canary system.
